ALZHEIMER'S CAN BE REVERSED
Over 70% of all Americans say that their biggest fear about growing old is that they will suffer from dementia. Although aging is the biggest risk factor, “insulin resistance” is a close second (as it is for most chronic diseases) and must be reversed immediately. Alzheimer’s is now emerging as the 3rd leading cause of death, and is impacting the Las Vegas community at an alarming rate.
Up to now the medical community has been focused on reducing beta-amyloid plaques and tau tangles the disease structures found in the brain of many Alheimer’s patients during autopsy. We now know that only 2% of ALL people don’t have any plaques or tangles. In fact more than 30% of people over 65 have enough plaques and tangles to meet the criteria for Alzheimer’s yet only 10% of people 65 and older experience measurable cognitive impairment.
TYPES OF ALZHEIMER'S
There are 2 types of Alzheimer’s disease. One is very rare and is known as Early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Two mutations are the cause – APP located on chromosome 21 and PSEN on chromosome 14. Less than 1% of the population has them. (This is what Dr Alois Alzheimer recognized in a German woman named Augste Deter in 1906, – an unusual case).
The much more common form of Alzheimer’s which typically develops after age 65 is called Late Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. While there is a genetic component it only leads to an increased risk not directly to the formation of the disease. The gene involved in this form of Alzheimer’s is known as APOE. There are 3 variants – APOE2, APOE3, and APOE4. We get one allele from each parent. APOE2 is the least common and is protective. APOE4 has been shown to increase the risk of Alzheimer’s especially if you have two of the APO4 alleles as shown.
Even if you have two APO4 alleles you can reduce your risk by following the Eternity Medicine’s Las Vegas based Reversing Alzheimer’s Program.
| APOE Genotype | Percentage of Population with this Genotype | Lifetime Risk of Dementia |
|---|---|---|
| APOE3/APOE3 | 60 percent | 9 percent |
| APOE3/APOE4 | 20 – 30 percent | 30 percent |
| APOE4/APOE4 | 2-3 percent | Greater than 50 percent |
Even if you have two APO4 alleles you can reduce your risk by following the Eternity Reversing Alzheimer’s Program.
NOTE: Most drugs targeting plaques and tangles have had little or no effect. Our Las Vegas Alzheimer’s doctors have other solutions.
DIAGNOSING ALZHEIMER'S
At Eternity, we employ a variety of routine and specialized testing to accurately measure cognitive function and identify possible causes for the decline in mental health. As an example, we measure:
- Metabolic function
- Leaky gut
- Environmental toxins
- Ptau-217
- Galectin-3
- MoCA Score
- CNSVS
- SPECT Scan
- Hormone levels
- MRI
20 WAYS TO HALT AND REVERSE ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE
- Increases blood flow to the brain
- Strengthens the heart
- Increases oxygenation
- Improves detoxification (especially with a rebounder trampoline)
- Aerobic exercise increases the volume of the Hippocampus
- Improves neurotransmitters like serotonin and norepinephrine
- Increases Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) and memory
- Increases insulin like growth factor (IGF) and neuroplasticity
- Improves muscle and increases insulin sensitivity

- Increased testosterone levels
- Increase mitochondrial biogenesis for better energy
- Decrease stress
- Increase endorphins to elevates mood
- Lower risk of falls by making bones stronger and improves balance
- Improve sleep
- Improve longevity genes (epigenetics)
- Improve social connections
- Nature walks helps focus and clarity
- Combine aerobic and resistance training for optimal results
- Dancing helps rewire parts of the brain

Exercise and good sleep also improve our gut bacteria. Reducing stress also improves our gut microbiome. Damage to our bacteria causes our mitochondria to increase inflammation and this is highly important since Alzheimer’s is an inflammatory disorder. Leaky gut (due to roundup) can pave the way for inflammation. Not only can you develop a leaky gut but you can also develop a “leaky brain”. So not only do particles leak across your gut but also across the blood brain barrier and provoke often intense autoimmune toxins and inflammation.

The gut has this extraordinarily robust immune system called the gastrointestinal associated lymphoid tissue GALT, where more than 50% of our antibodies of our body are produced in our gut immune system. So actually, the center of our immune system is in the gut. We know that the brain’s immune system is intimately connected to the gut’s immune system, which is intimately connected to the microbiome, which is then influenced by our lifestyle. Through how we eat, how we think, what we drink, drugs and alcohol that we’re exposed to. All these things modulate the effect on the microbiome, what I call the camping ground. This is a big camp out.

The surface area of our gastrointestinal tract is about that of a doubles tennis court. And that a doubles tennis court is occupied as a campground for literally hundreds, if not thousands, of different types of microorganisms that all have their own camp region. And when you disturb that, that’s called dysbiosis. And those bacteria can be of three families. They can be, we call a symbiotic that actually induce a – positive immune function. They produce vitamins and amino acids, and then there’s the commensals. Those are the bacteria that are there that kind of don’t do harm, but they don’t do good. They just take up space.

And then there’s the small percentage that we call parasitic, that can actually induce injury to our immune system. And in fact, in a gram of stool, there are more bacteria than there are stars in the known universe of which in a healthy microbiome, you have 99% of them being either the friendly or the commensals with only very small, less than 1% being the parasitic. However, as you get dysbiosis you get more of these parasitic bacteria clostridia, another organism that can produce toxic secondary by-products, which have effects not only in the immune system but can be direct neurotoxins.

- Education: The more education you have the less likely you will develop dementia. Staying mentally engaged through your lifespan is important. Studies show that late retirement lowers the risk of dementia. You must become the CEO of your own health.
- TBI: Even mild brain injuries can increase the chances of developing dementia. Caution with contact and recreational sports. Be sure to use helmets when engaged in these activities. Several psychological drugs have shown to be helpful in TBI and PTSD.
- Smoking: Even second hand smoking can impact the brain's health just as it does on the heart. Even quitting in later life can lower the risk of dementia.

- Alcohol: Alcohol is a toxin. We used to believe that moderate drinking was 1-2 drinks a night. Epigenetics shows us that moderate drinking is 1-2 drinks a week. Drinking 14 drinks a week is associated with a smaller hippocampus - the part of the brain associated with learning and memory.
- Air Pollution: Air pollution from traffic, power plants and trash burning plants can all increase the risk of dementia. Air purifiers can help. (See Airdoctorpro.com)
- Hearing Loss: All of our senses stimulate our brain. Hearing loss even at subclinical levels has a significant risk of Alzheimer’s. One needs to use good fitting hearing aids or better prevent hearing loss - because of noise at a shooting range and loud music or machinery.

- Social Isolation: Multiple long-term studies have shown that the more social contact you have, the lower your dementia risk and better your cognitive function later in life. Again frequent interaction with people stimulates all of your senses and the brain. If you live in Las Vegas, there are many community programs to connect with others even if you don't have many friends or family in the area.
- Sleep: All living forms that have a life cycle of more than one week are hardwired to sleep. Insects, fish, reptiles, mammals all sleep. One third of Americans don’t even get 5 hours of sleep. Regular sleep problems are linked with insulin resistance and inflammation with increased amyloid and tau protein tangles associated with a higher rate of Alzheimer's.
- Stress: Many studies have shown that chronic stress can damage the brain. First is that stress can alter your microbiome. Second, stress can greatly impact your hormones. Third, chronic stress can increase levels of inflammation and the damaging effects of free radicals (oxidative stress). Fourth, stress will increase blood sugar. A major mediator of the stress response is cortisol. Cortisol affects the number of nerve cells in the hippocampus, so important for memory. Women with chronic stress when cortisol goes up will have their estrogen and progesterone go down and often in midlife will show brain shrinkage, also levels of oxytocin (the love hormone) goes down. 1 in 6 females and 1 in 11 males. These changes can have a cumulative effect that greatly increases your risk of Alzheimer’s.To combat this we need to activate the healing system - called the parasympathetic system that will repair the brain. This can be done with a number of simple activities:
- Meditation
- Mindfulness Practices
- Diaphragmatic Breathing
- Yoga
- Spending time in nature
- Cultivating healthy relationships
- Exercise
- Quality sleep
- Seeking joy in life
- Heart-Math practices e.g. gratitude
What do mitochondria actually do?
- Mitochondria regulate metabolism broadly
- Produce and regulate neurotransmitters
- Help regulate immune system function
- Help regulate stress response
- Help make and release hormones
- Produce ROS ( and help clean them up)
- Are shapeshifters (fusion/fission)
- Play a primary role in gene expression ( epigenetics)
- Can multiply mitochondrial biogenesis
- Can induce cell growth and differentiation (neuroplasticity)
- Help maintain existing cells (autophagy)
- Can replace dysfunctional ones (mitophagy)
- Eliminate old and damaged cells ( apoptosis)
These “mitochondria” are the most important signaling molecules in the body and are responsible for most of the damage caused in Alzheimer’s. It is largely due to this endosymbiotic relationship that has been broken by the pandemic of insulin resistance and obesity
Hormones
Age is perhaps the single biggest factor responsible for falling hormone levels. However, all the above lifestyle factors can lower our hormone levels.
It is very important to assess the symptoms of low hormones and using simple lab tests we can easily replace the key hormones that will improve metabolic health, our mood and cognition.
Toxins
We are just now learning how important nutrition is to combat Alzheimer’s disease. Clearly food is critical. But toxins are still ignored. What about all the neurotoxins in our environment that we are exposed to everyday through food, toxic bacteria, beverages, the air, water, household cleaning products, cosmetics and microplastics. One group that are especially toxic are heavy metals such as mercury and lead. We know that the average newborn baby in their umbilical cord blood before they take their first breath have 287 known toxins. During your 12 week program Eternity may use one or more diagnostic tests to assess the level of toxins in your body.

Monitoring will vary depending on the severity of your condition. Several of the following will be done at different times at your visit to our Las Vegas clinic.
