Reverse Type 2 Diabetes in Under 4 Weeks

Jan 01, 2020

"The solution to type 2 diabetes and obesity is known, and it is based on lifestyle factors. My goal is to put you back in the driving seat of your health". Dr Graham Simpson

As reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in September 2015, 53% of Americans have Diabetes or Pre-diabetes. Recent research shows that more than 88% of the USA adult population has insulin resistance. Today being overweight, obesity and diabetes are at an all-time high, not only in the USA but worldwide, hence the term diabesity.

It's estimated that by 2035, rates of type 2 diabetes will increase more than 80% in the Middle East and India. A scary fact considering more than 67% of their population have diabetes and pre-diabetes.

So, what is going on?

Poor nutrition is what is going on. In these countries, obesity rates are well over 50% of the population, and if we know one thing with certainty, it is that obesity and lousy eating is the main culprit behind type 2 diabetes. How can we reverse the trend? We need to focus on our diets. Furthermore, for those suffering from the condition, they need to know that all is not lost.

I have seen people living with type 2 diabetes not only control their diabetes through good eating but reverse and eliminate the disease often in as little as 4-6 weeks.

The diabesity epidemic and the resultant Cardio-Metabolic Disease (Heart Disease, Cancer, Alzheimer's, Autoimmune Disease etc.) are all conditions best described as carbohydrate intolerance – that are all caused by the Standard American Diet (SAD).

This 'Global Pandemic of the 21st Century' is the result of two misguided ideas. First, the Diet-Heart Hypothesis formulated by Ancel Keys in the 1970s that suggested that saturated fats raised LDL-cholesterol that lodges in our arteries were causing heart disease. It was because of this we were told to avoid foods like meat, eggs, dairy and coconut oil.

The second mishap, which followed, was the 1980 US Dietary Guidelines for Americans that told us to increase our carbohydrate consumption from 55 to 60% of the diet and decrease our fat consumption from 40% to 30% (this resulted in the infamous US Food Pyramid).

Diets with different ratios of carbs and fat but identical amounts of calories have very different effects on hormones, hunger and metabolism.

You might be asking how did things change?

Bad advice, bad science, vested interests (Big Food and Big Pharma) and faulty government interference in health matters that's what.

Starting in the 1970s, the food industry began to meddle with medical science, to enlarge its grasp and create more profits. We now have clear evidence that the science peddled by official 'researcher' Ancel Keys was deliberately biased, even faked, to support Big Food giant conglomerates, who wanted to sell us more sugar, more cheap grain, such as corn and more unhealthy vegetable oils.

The result of all this is that we become addicted to carbs, feel hungry most of the time, over-eat, and repeatedly guzzle, several times a day. It is a treadmill, and it is deadly. What do farmers feed their livestock to fatten up the beasts for more profits? Carbs! What does the government tell us to eat? More Carbs!

Forget the myth that caveman died young. Apart from being killed by a wild animal, or by infectious disease just like today, the evidence is clear that early man lived to a full three-score-years and ten (70). Not only that but their skeletons were tall, healthy and superb, without any trace of arthritis or other degenerative diseases.

The Paleo Diet follows the eating habits of our Palaeolithic ancestors, and they did not have type 2 diabetes. Meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and eggs were the main foods that made up this diet. Why do our bodies love these foods? Because they keep your blood glucose levels just perfect and your insulin response in check.

Science has shown us that our genes have not changed a bit since our Palaeolithic days, and so our bodies are still unable to deal with the modern Western diet so full of sugars and the unhealthy carbs. Humans were consuming the hunter-gatherer Palaeolithic diet for more than 2 ½ million years up until about 10,000 years ago, at which point grains were introduced into our diets. What happened thereafter? Studies have shown an immediate decline in health.

More than half the world is now fat, diabetic and sick.
Diabesity is the #1 killer worldwide and is responsible for 80% of all deaths and healthcare costs.

Diabetes and Pre-diabetes, have long been regarded as a chronic progressive condition capable of management but not cure. There is now proof that most type 2 diabetics can reverse and often cure their diabetes in a few weeks with a High Fat Low Carb (HFLC) Keto Diet and Intermittent Fasting.

A Paleo Diet (moderate fat, moderate carbs, moderate protein) is a great maintenance diet, but if you have diabesity I strongly recommend the Keto Diet - high fat (70%), moderate protein (20%) and low carbs (10%). This can be a non-vegetarian or vegetarian diet. (We will cover the pros and cons of plant-based diets in the future). We are also big fans of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) that can quickly show you how what you eat each day may be causing your sugars to skyrocket producing insulin resistance. Next time you visit your doctor ask for a fasting sugar and fasting insulin and evaluate your HOMA-IR score: -

If your score is <1.9 – you are insulin sensitive.
If your score is 1.9-2.9 – you have moderate insulin resistance.
If your score is >2.9 – you have severe insulin resistance.
